“Peak of Monsoon” quickly came to fruition with production by Freddy Jay Walker and written by Chezale. The track includes the sample Leo Season Rain, with faint sounds of jingling keys, the starting of a car’s ignition and silky rains…with smooth bass and guitar melodies that embellish the track with an R&B groove. Chezale tells a story of her earliest memories of arriving in the Southwest and being welcomed by the unforgettable scent of desert rains & creosote, along with unique landscape references that only a true Tucsonan would recognize.

The Monsoon Mixtape, presented by Tucson Water, is a series of songs by Tucson musicians that celebrate our summer rains. Commissioned by Tucson Water artist-in-residence Alex! Jimenez, each artist was given access to an online library of field recordings made by Jimenez, Logan Phillips, Enrique Garcia Naranjo, and members of the community.
